  6. A complete history of Twenty One Pilots performances in Tampa Bay

    Music & Concerts

When Twenty One Pilots came onstage in their undies this month to accept a Grammy for their huge hit Stressed Out, many viewers probably wondered: Who were these weirdos, and how on earth did they get here?

The pop/rap/rock/punk/reggae/theatrical/everything bagel of a band from Columbus, Ohio, is, improbably, the hottest alternative act in America. Singer/multi-instrumentalist Tyler Joseph and animalistic drummer Joshua Dun have gone from complete unknowns to festival headliners who sell out arenas coast to coast. And it all happened seemingly overnight....

LETTING THE SUNSHINE IN: Dashboard Confessional

One of the great ironies of the early 2000s emo boom was that its dreamiest poster boy, Dashboard Confessional's Chris Carrabba, hailed from sunny Boca Raton.

"I really found out who I was supposed to be when I got there," the Connecticut native said in a phone interview with the Times' Kathryn Varn. And he still looks forward to each gig in Florida — such as Thursday's concert at the Ritz Ybor....

  14. Review: Bon Jovi, older and wiser, shows Tampa's Amalie Arena lots of Valentine's Day love

    Blog

Jon Bon Jovi was pacing the stage, racking his brain, trying to remember the name of the Tampa rock station that first played their debut single Runaway back in 1984. He could remember the DJ, Ron Diaz, but he couldn’t remember the call letters. So he grabbed a mic and quizzed the audience.

"Bonus points on Valentine's Day for the first girl who can tell me the name," he challenged the crowd of 18,000 during Bon Jovi’s concert Tuesday at Amalie Arena. "I'm going to come down to give you kisses."...

Bon Jovi performed at Amalie Arena in Tampa on Feb. 14, 2017.
