TARPON SPRINGS — Police officers responded to the call thinking a dog was run over by a car.

But when an officer took the 1-year-old German Shepherd mix named Radar to an animal hospital, veterinarians told her he had been shot.

Now, Tarpon Springs police are looking for the person responsible for firing the round that eventually killed the dog. He was transferred to another hospital and was euthanized due to a severe spinal cord injury.

According to police, Radar escaped Thursday night from his fenced backyard at 1100 E Lime St. A call came in about 12:50 p.m. the next day that a dog was possibly hit by a car at 1117 Lake St., an abandoned home.

Officer Brittney Rose took him in the back of her cruiser to Westlake Animal Hospital about a mile away, where it was determined he had been shot by a round with an unknown caliber, police said. The owner, Bradley Wayne Grove Jr., was located through Radar's microchip.

Detectives ask that anyone with information contact the Tarpon Springs Police Department Detective Division at (727) 938-2849.
