SAFETY HARBOR — A retired St. Petersburg police officer doing electrical work in his attic Saturday afternoon was electrocuted, Pinellas sheriff's deputies said.
It happened at about 12:54 p.m. at 127 Harbor Woods Circle in Safety Harbor, investigators said. Paramedics took the homeowner, Roberto A. Rolon, 48, to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, deputies said. The county medical examiner will determine the cause of death.
Deputies said the investigation remains open, but they do not consider the incident suspicious.
Rolon, who was known as "Tony" in the Police Department, retired in 2008 after 25 years of service including several as a motorcycle officer, officials said. Rolon's family declined to speak with reporters, according to deputies.
