No bail for accused shooter outside Brandon Waffle House

TAMPA — A Riverview man accused of firing 15 rounds outside a suburban Waffle House and injuring two was ordered Sunday to be held without bail.

Matthew Royce Laine, 22, faces two felony counts of attempted second-degree murder. Sunday morning, Circuit Judge Caroline Tesche denied bail, records show.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said Laine opened fire on a sport utility vehicle about 1 a.m. Saturday outside the restaurant at 1902 W Lumsden Road in Brandon. One of the young women in the SUV ducked while the other ran, suffering gunshot wounds to her arm and leg.

Victims Briana Reddick, 20, and Princess Benoit, 16 told investigators they don't know Laine.

He was eating at the Waffle House, the Sheriff's Office said, when four girls in an SUV pulled into the parking lot. Two of them — their names were not released — went in to pick up food while Reddick and Benoit waited.

No altercation preceded the shooting, deputies said. Reddick was taken to Tampa General Hospital. Benoit suffered cuts.

Country music has a dude problem.

I’m not talking about the proliferation of mindless bro country over the past half-decade, nor am I referring to the fact that most of Nashville’s best music these days comes not from said bros, from female singers and songwriters.
