Police: Girl, 17, seriously injured after being struck by car in St. Petersburg

A 17-year-old girl who was struck by a car in St. Petersburg sustained serious injuries Monday morning, according to the St. Petersburg Police Department.

Alina Marie Perez was struck by a red Buick Rendezvous on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street around 55th Avenue N at 7:07 a.m., police said. Police say Perez was crossing Dr. MLK Jr. Street N eastbound when she was hit by the Buick, which was traveling north.

Pinellas County school district spokeswoman Lisa Wolf confirmed Perez is a sophomore at Northeast High School, 5500 16th St. N, which is less than a mile from the crash.
