Salvador Dalí Museum Guild hosts Suenos de Dalí

One never knows what the imaginative people at the Dalí Museum in St. Petersburg will dream up next, but dream they did at the second annual Suenos de Dalí, which featured luxury cars from presenting sponsor Bert Smith Porsche, images projected onto the facade of the building and dozens of amazing costumes.

The title means Dreams of Dalí and planners focused on the artist's use of time in some of his works, with chimes sounding and models whose faces were made up to look like clocks circulating through the crowd of more than 300.

Throughout the evening, patrons were treated to flamenco performers, fire dancers, jazz from Nate Najar and Theo Valentine, food and even signature "Mad Mustache" cocktails.

Emmanuel and Montserrat Cerf chaired the event committee, which comprised members of the museum's guild, and docents were stationed in the galleries to explain works in the permanent collection and in the current exhibition, "The Royal Inheritance."

"It was a beautiful night," development director Molly James said, and toward the end of the evening, a number of guests sat outdoors, taking in the music and the water views.

At its 15th annual Distinguished Citizens Awards banquets, the West Central Florida Council Boy Scouts of America honored three business leaders, Vinny Dolan, Tim Bogott and David Cox.

Dolan is state president of Progress Energy Florida, Bogott is chief executive officer of the TradeWinds Island Resorts, and Cox is president and owner of Big C Steel. All are involved in numerous civic and charitable organizations.

Progress Energy's Melissa Seixas announced the establishment of a scholarship to be presented in Dolan's name. Melissa Rutland talked about the perpetuation of the Hubert "Bud" Rutland III Scholarship, and Maureen Donovan-Dobiesz awarded the scholarship that bears her name to Jennifer Galley.

Mary Evertz, Dr. Albert Geiger and Dr. Robert Kropp were co-chairs for the dinner, leading a committee that included John Baringer, William Brooks, William Davis, Lucas DeVicente, Del Goforth, John Green Jr., James Henderson, Gregory Holden, Dr. Andrew Nelson, Dr. Christopher Nelson Jr. and John Waechter.

The event raises money for the council's urban-emphasis Scouting program.

The Queen's Court, which raises money for charities and civic organizations through its annual Queen of Hearts Ball, is accepting nominations for outstanding female volunteers who live and volunteer in Pinellas County. Submissions, which are due Jan. 4, must be sponsored by guilds, auxiliaries or other nonprofit organizations, For an application, call (727) 894-9394.

The court also is accepting applications from Pinellas County organizations to receive grants from the Feb. 16 event. Charities must be listed under Section 501(c)(3) of the IRS code. Applications may be obtained by calling (727) 458-5686. The deadline for those submissions is March 1.
