Holiday schedule set for trash, recycling
Hernando County government offices and solid waste facilities will be closed May 29 in observance of Memorial Day, and there will be no trash or recycling collections that day. Trash and recycling will be collected on the next regularly scheduled service date — trash on June 1 and recycling on June 5. Due to the increased volume of trash and recycling after a holiday, customers may experience earlier or later pickup times. For information, call Republic Services toll-free 1-800-282-9820.
License-free fishing dates announced
Fishing license requirements will be waived for saltwater recreational anglers (residents or non-residents) on June 3 and 4 and for all freshwater recreational anglers on June 10 and 11. Free fishing days provide an opportunity for parents who don't yet have licenses to take youth fishing, or avid anglers to introduce a friend to fishing without having to purchase a license. All other rules (seasons, bag and size limits) apply. The waiver applies to any recreational harvest requiring a license as well as fishing from shore or boat. For information on regulations, fish identification and fishing tips, visit myfwc.com.
