CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) — Sophomore Bruce Brown had his second career triple-double and the third in school history to help the No. 13 Miami Hurricanes win their season opener by beating Gardner-Webb 77-45. Brown totaled 10 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists in 31 minutes.

EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Miles Bridges started his sophomore season strong with 20 points and 10 rebounds, helping No. 2 Michigan State beat North Florida 98-66 in a tuneup for a highly anticipated game. The Spartans will play No. 1 Duke on Tuesday night in Chicago. Michigan State freshman Jaren Jackson had 13 points, 13 rebounds and four blocks. Nick Ward scored 11 of his 16 points in the first 7-plus minutes of the game. Joshua Langford scored 13 points.

PHOENIX (AP) — Aaron Gordon had 22 points and Nikola Vucevic added 19 to help the balanced Orlando Magic beat the Phoenix Suns 128-112. Terrence Ross and reserve Jonathon Simmons scored 17 points apiece and Evan Fournier had 14 for the Magic.

UNDATED (AP) — No. 3 Notre Dame visits No. 7 Miami, with the winner certain to remain a viable name in the race for the national championship. Part of the reason why Notre Dame is in the title race is that it has turned the ball over only seven times this season. And part of why Miami is surging again is because the Hurricanes have been among the best at getting takeaways.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Dion Waiters scored 21 points, and the Miami Heat rallied for an 84-74 victory over the Utah Jazz. Goran Dragic had 18 points for Miami, and Tyler Johnson finished with 11 on an ugly night for each team on the offensive end.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Chatrice White had a career-high 21 points and 12 rebounds and Imani Wright added 17 points and eight assists to help Florida State beat North Florida 109-51 in the season opener for both teams. AJ Alix hit 5-of-8 3-pointers and finished with 17 points and Shakayla Thomas had 16 points and nine rebounds for Florida State.

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Maria Jespersen scored 20 points, Kitija Laksa added 16 and No. 23 South Florida held off LSU 61-55 in the season opener. Raigyne (Moncrief) Louis, who scored LSU's last seven points, scored five straight points, the last three from the foul line, to pull the Tigers within 55-53 with 1:13 to play.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Chris Cokley scored a career-high 26 points and grabbed 13 rebounds as Alabama-Birmingham rolled past Jacksonville, 96-67 in the season opener. Cokley knocked down 10 of 13 shots from the field while the Blazers hit 35 of 57 from the floor (61.4 percent).
