Rep. Carlos Curbelo calls out Roy Moore in tweet

RECOMMENDED READING

A prominent Sunshine State Republican denounced Roy Moore on Friday in the wake of allegations that the Republican nominee for the open Alabama U.S. Senate seat courted girls as young as 14 in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

U.S. Rep. Carlos Curbelo, R-Miami, said in a tweet that Moore is “despicable and should step down.”

Moore is currently competing for a Senate seat the GOP may need to keep control of the chamber in 2018.

Florida GOP consultant Brett Doster, who works for Moore, tweeted that "the GOP establishment is lining up with the Libs to attack (Moore) before weighing evidence."

The Washington Post story that brought the allegations to light cited 30 sources and included testimony from four women who all said Moore courted them while they were in their teens. One of the women said Moore attempted to engage in a sexual encounter with her when she was 14.

Sen. Marco Rubio criticized Moore yesterday, telling a reporter, "Today's report in the Washington Post raises allegations against Mr. Moore that are deeply disturbing and, if true, disqualifying."
