Frederica Wilson calls herself a ‘rock star’

RECOMMENDED READING

Rep. Frederica Wilson is facing a backlash for saying she's a "rock star" now given the national attention from her feud with President Donald Trump.

"You mean to tell me that I have become so important that the White House is following me and my words?" a laughing Wilson said in an interview that aired Thursday on a Miami TV station. "This is amazing. That's amazing. That is absolutely phenomenal. I'll have to tell my kids that I'm a rock star now."

Conservative media outlets jumped on the clip and said it showed Wilson was classless and that it confirmed she was showboating by calling attention to Trump's words in the first place.

A spokeswoman, however, says Wilson was "absolutely" being sarcastic "and making a joke about the extraordinary amount of media attention she's been getting."

Wilson has said she's gotten threats from white nationalists and has notified authorities. Her spokeswoman did not respond to questions about those calls.
