Katy Perry, Kendrick Lamar coming to Amalie Arena in Tampa
What a way for music lovers to wake up on a Monday morning.
Two of pop music's biggest and most vital stars, Katy Perry and Kendrick Lamar, have announced tour stops at Tampa's Amalie Arena.
Lamar, the West Coast rapper behind some of this decade's most critically acclaimed albums -- including last month's DAMN. -- will hit Amalie Arena on Sept. 1. It'll be his second stop there, following a gig opening for Kanye West in 2013. YG and D.R.A.M. will open this show. Tickets start at $35.75 and go on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday. And Perry, who ranks with Taylor Swift, Adele, Lady Gaga and Beyonce as one of the world's biggest pop singers, will return to Amalie Arena for the first time since 2014 on Dec. 15.
Her tour comes in support of her just-announced new album Witness, featuring the singles Chained to the Rhythm and Bon Appetit, which comes out June 9. Tickets to the show start at $45.75 and go on sale at 10 a.m. May 22. Each ticket includes a pre-order for Witness, which ensures that's going to be one of this year's biggest albums.
Perry's Dec. 15 Tampa stop comes two weeks after Lady Gaga plays Amalie Arena, and will be around the same time as the 93.3-FLZ Jingle Ball, making that a gargantuan month for pop music in Tampa. And like that Lady Gaga show, Perry's Tampa gig is likely to sell out almost immediately. So keep in mind that there will be a Ticketmaster Verified Fan pre-sale from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Thursday; and a Citi pre-sale from noon Thursday through 10 p.m. Saturday. If you wait too long on this show, you won't get in cheap. (Although if you do miss out on Tampa tickets, Perry is also coming to Orlando's Amway Center on Dec. 17.)
No openers have been announced yet for Perry, though her team promises more tour details will be released in the coming weeks. Click here for details on the Tampa stop.
