Chance the Rapper coming to Amalie Arena in Tampa
Two days after tearing up the Grammy stage, Chance the Rapper has announced he's coming to Tampa.
The incandescent Chicago rapper will bring his just-announced spring and summer tour to Amalie Arena on June 14, his first local show since a Jannus Live gig in 2015. Tickets start at $35.75 and go on sale at 7 p.m. today, so if you're heading to Amalie Arena for Bon Jovi later, swing by the box office and pick up a couple. Or just click here.
Chance made history at this year's Grammys, winning not only Best New Artist but also Best Rap Album (Coloring Book) and Best Rap Performance (No Problem), in the process becoming the first independent, streaming-only artist to be so honored. His glowing speeches and fiery performance with Kirk Franklin and a huge gospel choir were among the night's most memorable moments.
Now, the bad news: June 14 happens to be the same night U2 brings their much-anticipated Joshua Tree anniversary tour to Raymond James Stadium. That's two of the best local concerts of the year happening on the same night -- and you get a sense that with their respective fascinations with uplift and spirituality, Chance and Bono are probably fans of one another. So it's a bummer we'll have to chose.
Still, it's hard to complain when you've got one of the most positive and electric rappers in the game coming to your backyard. Click here for details on Chance's show.
