WINNERS

JIMMY KIMMEL
Until recently the third person mentioned in any conversation about late-night talk show hosts, Kimmel this week has found and tentatively occupied the space of late-night-host-turned-nation's-moral-conscience. Leading with his heart, and letting the nation see a grown man care enough about something to cry, he has spoken movingly on his ABC show about repealing the Affordable Care Act and gun control in the wake of the shooting massacre that killed 59 people and wounded more than 500 in his home town of Las Vegas. "I want this to be a comedy show," Kimmel said, in a genuine plea. "I hate talking about stuff like this. I just want to laugh about things every night, but that (is) becoming increasingly difficult lately. It feels like someone has opened a window into hell." Too true, Jimmy.

STEVE COOGAN AND SIENNA MILLER
British actors Steve Coogan and Sienna Miller literally won this week in court, receiving financial damages and apologies from Mirror Group Newspapers in the settlement of long-running phone hacking cases. The amounts were not made public but Coogan said it was a "six-figure" sum, the bulk of which would be distributed to charity.

JASON ALDEAN

The country singer was the closing act for the Route 91 Harvest festival in Las Vegas and had just started playing When She Says Baby as gunfire erupted Sunday night. In the wake of the shooting, Alden posted an emotional plea to Instagram and Twitter early Tuesday, urging people to "come together and stop the hate." Aldean wrote: "Over the last 24 hrs I have gone through lots of emotions. Fear, Anger, Heartache, Compassion and many others. ... We are all humans and we are all Americans and its time to start acting like it and stand together as ONE! That is the only way we will ever get this Country to be better than it has ever been, but we have a long way to go and we have to start now."

KEVIN SPACEY

The House of Cards star is sending support to Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who last week announced that she has cancer, in the cutest way. "From one Pres to another, you inspire our nation both on TV & in life. Love to you @OfficialJLD from your seat mate #EmmyDad #BeatCancer," Spacey tweeted this week. He of course is referencing his role as President Frank Underwood on the Netflix drama and her role as Selina Meyer on HBO's Veep, for which she recently won a record sixth consecutive Emmy. According to Entertainment Weekly, the #EmmyDad hashtag refers to the viral moment TV cameras caught him recording her Emmy acceptance speech with his smartphone like a proud parent. Louis-Dreyfus responded: "Can't believe you caught this! Thanks @KevinSpacey - you go beyond the beyond as a seat mate."

TINA FEY

The actor surprised fans at the August Wilson Theatre, where the Mean Girls musical will begin performances next year. From a food truck, she dished up cheese fries and more goodies for fans buying tickets for the Broadway run. What day was it? Oct. 3.

LOSERS

STELLA MCCARTNEY

There some good-looking clothes on the runway at Stella McCartney's spring 2018 collection. But it is hard to recall these moments. Because there was something on the runway that was so jarring, so unnerving and, for those members of Generation X, so terribly haunting: acid-washed denim. For the love of God, Stella McCartney, what have you done? Faded, boxy denim jackets and vests, onesies and jeans? No sir. No ma'am. No doubt you will see this denim on some celebrity who will look cool because she has styled it juuust right. Most people don't have a squadron of professional fashion whisperers. You don't. Avoid ‘80s denim, people. Be strong. Don't do it. Washington Post

McCartney was also criticized for using African-inspired prints on dresses but not including African models.

LIL WAYNE
Refunds promised to fans of Lil Wayne after he refused to pass through a security check to enter a South Carolina arena and skipped a concert have been thrown into question. Promoters sent a letter to Colonial Life Arena on Sunday saying they had collectively decided not to offer refunds for the Fall Ball 2017. The venue previously said refunds would be issued. The promoters said they decided not to issue refunds as Lil Wayne wasn't the event's headliner. Cardi B, 2 Chainz and Tory Lanes performed as scheduled.

CREEPY ‘FIXER UPPER' FANS
Fans were disappointed to learn that Fixer Upper will be coming to a close after Season 5, but sources tell Us Weekly there's a good reason behind Chip and Joanna Gaines' withdrawal from the spotlight. "People drive by and like to take pictures in front of their house," the anonymous informant said. "I think they just want to take a step back from it." The Gaines family announced the decision to end their wildly popular HGTV series after the upcoming season on their blog on Sept. 26.

MARK SALLING
The former Glee actor has reached a deal with prosecutors to plead guilty to possession of child pornography. The plea agreement filed Tuesday in federal court in Los Angeles states the actor is admitting he possessed images of prepubescent children. The agreement states a search warrant found more than 50,000 images of child porn on Salling's computer and a thumb drive. Prosecutors and Salling have agreed to ask a judge to sentence the actor to a prison term between four to seven years. He will also be required to register as a sex offender, pay restitution and abide by restrictions on where he can live.
